The thermal behaviors of three over-the-counter medicines, A, B, and C were studied by ThermoMass Photo with EIMS. The major component of these medicines is loxoprofen sodium hydrate, used as anti-inflammatroy and analgesia.
The TG curves in these medicines show the 3 weight loss steps associated with the evolution of the gases which gives the m/z 18, 55, 70, 105, and 120 signals in the MS spectra. The medicine A shows the evolution of H2O at the1st weight loss step, and the evolution of H2O and CO2 at the 2nd step. The medicine B evolves less H2O and CO2 at the 2nd step than the medicine A. The medicine C does not evolve H2O and CO2, but other gases which give the ions of m/z 55 and 70. Thus, the Thermo Mass Photo measurement revealed the difference of the thermal behaviors and pyrolytic products among the three medicines, which cannot be recognized by TG measurement alone.
