Agilent's High Matrix Introduction (HMI) technology uses an innovative, computer-controlled and reproducible “aerosol dilution” approach that reduces the aerosol loading on the plasma. This allows the plasma to tolerate much higher Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels than the 0.1 to 0.2% that is typical for ICP-MS. HMI is standard on the 7700x, optional on other 7700 Series instruments and available as an upgrade for 7500 Series instruments.HMI “dilutes” the sample aerosol using clean, dry argon gas, completely eliminating the disadvantages of liquid dilution (time, reagent costs, risk of contamination, dilution errors).
Enables the direct analysis of samples containing low% TDS (up to 3%, depending on the matrix).
Significantly improves plasma robustness compared to conventional ICP-MS methods.
Reduces oxide interferences to extremely low levels (0.2% CeO/Ce) providing better accuracy and more stable sampling conditions.
Eliminates liquid dilution of high matrix samples prior to analysis. Conventional liquid dilution has several disadvantages, including increased risk of sample contamination, dilution errors and sample prep time.
Provided as standard on the ICP-MS 7700x system and available as an option or upgrade for other models.
