The Agilent Hydride Generation (HG) Accessory for ICP-MS uses membrane technology to separate the volatile hydrides from the sample matrix. The HG Accessory can be configured as a standalone unit for continuous-flow analysis, or coupled to the Agilent ISIS-DS and Agilent ASX-520 Autosampler for discrete-sampling analysis of the hydride forming elements. Elements measured include arsenic, selenium and antimony, and the same accessory and operating conditions also provide high-sensitivity measurement of mercury, using the mercury cold-vapor technique. In addition to increased sensitivity, the Hydride Generator separates As and Se from chloride-based polyatomic interferences, improving detection of these elements in high-chloride matrices such as sea water.
